OVERVIEW
A space for live virtual conversation with the outstanding choral and orchestral director María Guinand and the Director of the Voice Department of the Teatro del Lago School of the Arts, Gerard Ramos, about the role of the conductor today, Latin American repertoire and choral music, how we dealt with choral challenges during the pandemic and its future, the role of the voice in today’s world, and the methodologies of working with children, choir and eurythmy.
María Guinand
Choral and orchestral director, university professor, pedagogue and leader of choral projects, she is currently artistic director of the Schola Cantorum Foundation of Venezuela and the Empresas Polar Foundation Choir.
BIOGRAPHY
- María GuinandDuring her distinguished career, she has been an Associate Professor at the Simón Bolívar University (1976-2018) in General Studies and the Masters Programme in Choral Conducting in Caracas, Venezuela; Coordinator of Symphonic-Choral Assemblies of El Sistema (1980-2012) and Director of the Simón Bolívar Conservatory of Music (1993-1996); artistic director (2003-2017) of the “Música para Crecer” [Music to Grow] programme sponsored by the Andean Development Corporation (CAF in Spanish). She has also been President, Vice President and Advisor for Latin America with the International Federation for Choral Music (1996-2008) and member of the International Music Council (UNESCO) (2002-2005). She is currently IFCM Vice President for Latin America (2020-2023).
