Conductor Gijs Leenaars, along with soprano Mónica Ferracani, mezzo-soprano Alejandra Malvino, tenor Enrique Folger and bass Lucas Debevec Mayer, interpreted one of the most colossal works in the history of music: Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in Re minor, Op. 125.
Also referred to as “choral” because of the choir’s presence and participation in the fourth movement, this was the last symphony composed by Beethoven and was listed as UNESCO Heritage of Mankind in 2003.
This transcendental work is interpreted by Germany’s oldest radio choir, Rundfunkchor Berlin, recognized for its award-winning recordings and presentations. Together with its soloists, the choir performs a magnificent rendition of the poem ‘Ode to Joy’ by Friedrich Schiller.
Although traditionally known for its historical interpretations, this group also presents superb performances with modern instruments and a repertoire of 20th century composers.
Let’s continue celebrating Teatro del Lago’s 10th anniversary with emblematic concerts! Enjoy Beethoven’s last masterpiece composition, just in time for the 250th anniversary of his birth.
